Advanced Money Management

This course aims to provide an insight into individual areas of money management. It is divided into four separate sessions. Participants must complete a minimum of two out of the four sessions in order to gain certification.

Benefits & Work: The aim of this session is to look at the reality of returning to work. It covers how benefits can be maximised whilst earning a low income, through claiming additional benefits and changing claims.

Debt Management: This is run in conjunction with the Citizens Advice Bureau Debt Advice Team. The ain is to expalin how debt can occur and how to resolve it.

Minimising Bills: Participants for this session need to have completed the basic Money Management course. The session looks at how to effectively manage utility bills in their home.

Living Expenses: The aim of this session is to make participants aware of how to open a bank account and also provide participants with information as to how to avoid personal debt.

Aims Of The Course

  1. To provide participants with the knowledge about returning to work and how this would effect their benefits.
  2. To look at why debt can occur and how it can be effectively dealt with.
  3. To provide participants with the knowledge about how to effectively manage their utility bills and minimise their bills.
  4. To identify how to open a bank account and effective ways of overcoming difficulties in opening bank accounts.
  5. The session aims to give participants information about avoiding personal debt and the pros and cons of overdrafts and credit cards.

This course will be considered as part of a completed programme of resettlement, and may be used as module of a higher certificate in Effective Tenancy Management
