In line with the latest government guidance, the Peasholme Charity team will be working remotely – from home where possible – until the lockdown is lifted.

The Charity is a small, dedicated team of seven with a wealth of experience supporting homeless people and those at risk of homelessness. We will continue to operate all of our current services.

Sarah, Community Advice Worker, supports individuals and families accessing foodbanks – working alongside them to establish the root cause of crisis and signposting to partner agencies for further comprehensive support.

Sarah has managed an advice helpline since March – helping people in emergency situations relating to debt, housing and food. This service will continue as normal. The advice line number is 0300 365 77 00.

Alison, Financial Capability Coach, will continue working from home, helping newly unemployed people to apply for welfare benefits and supporting people with budgeting advice and benefit appeals/challenges.

All contact will be made via telephone and video calls, which has worked amazingly well for Alison over the last few months. Although community drop-ins remain closed, Alison continues to work with partners Kyra – women’s project and York MIND to ensure people she would typically see at drop-ins are still supported.

Weekly team meeting

The housing team, Ray and Ian, will continue to make daily street walks across York to support the homeless community – wearing PPE, social distancing and remaining outdoors wherever possible.

Ray will be making daily trips to Mecca Bingo on Fishergate to collect freshly cooked meals, which he will distribute to hostels, the resettlement centre, temporary/emergency accommodation and rough sleepers.

Ray and Ian will continue to offer 1-2-1 support to rough sleepers and people in dangerous housing situations.

Yvonne, Nathalie and Hayley will continue to work remotely. The team are in regular contact with one another via WhatsApp messaging and video calls and have a full team catch up every week.

If you, or someone you support, needs advice relating to housing, debt or accessing food, please email or call 0300 365 77 00.
